Techies. What is needed to run two monitors.

I wanna set up a couple of my guys to run dual monitors. Not just for display but to actually work with. They need to be able to open differnt windows in each monitor. What do I need, special video card or do they make special adapters for this?

Can someone link me to page that explains this? I cant find shit online

thx,
Ray

2 monitors, 1 machine, you need either 2 video cards, or a video card with dual outputs.

Most modern video cards have dual outputs already.

Hi guys,

So it is a dual output card...someone was trying to tell me I just need a "splitter wire". Simple enough.

thx!
Ray

no, a splitter would just give you the same output to two monitors. with a dual output card and with windows support for dual output cards, you can have, essentially, a desktop that covers two monitors.. its like having one giant monitor.

If the are both DVI capable monitors, then DVI outputs will make a world of difference.

You can get a little adapter plug as well. My ATI card has the standard monitor socket as well as a dvi one, so I got an adapter for the dvi socket which allows me to run dual crt monitors.

When you get the monitors set up, there is a free application called "UltraMon" that is great to have.

It helps manage your taskbar across both monitors, takes care of your background for both, etc.

And is very small.

I reccomend it highly.
