Actually my dad was working with computers, 8 hours a day for like 15-20 years and his eyes are fine. Doesn't wear glasses at all & he is 46

The best thing to do is take breaks once & awhile. Works nice for the smoker who ducks outside often enough.

Also make sure your work area is bright.
If the lights are out my eyes hurt pretty bad if I work on the computer.

So takes breaks & don't work in the dark.
You might want to sit 2 feet from the monitor as well.

These idiots with 21 inch monitor on a cramped desk might have problems though.

Good tips but I can`t believe that you can work with computers that long and nothing changed with your eyes.
Have you heard of these special glasses that should be weared when working on computer?
they make all looks darker

HTH

When I worked in a hardware store we had a customer that actually did that, except he wrapped a KFC bucket in foil and used that, anytime he wanted to buy something he wouldn't go to the checkout because of the radiation and made one of the staff complete his purchase.

I used to wear reading glasses, and since I started working on computers I have HAD to get rid of them! It seems that reading the text at a curtain distance for HOURS a day it corrected the problem.

So computers are a good thing!

I use a cristal filter in front of my monitor AND special glasses.

I used to work with the filter only and my eyes would get all irritated after about 8 hours of work, so I decided to go get the glasses, it works like a charm for me (I have also set my monitor a bit brighter to compensate)

refresh rate is the frequency that updates the pixels on your screen. Or simple how times your screen is redrawn per second.
I suggest 85Hz or higher if possible if for example you work on
60Hz then your screens looks like a stroboscope and you can
see it flickering.....avoid that at all time

I have a lead shield in front of my monitor and lead glasses for when I go outside

I does make things seem a little blury and dark, but is better than getting radiation and losing my x-ray vision.

A small price to pay.
