If it's a true story, I wonder just how badly the wife shredded the guy's dignity afterwards.

What a horrible scenario for getting "found out."
I mean, there are many other ways of getting found out than having to have a huge catastrophe like that happen in order for the wife to nail you. Hiring a detective comes to mind.
