They have some big customers.
"floridaT" from candidhosting posts on this BBS. His/her ICQ # is 100535057. Where on their web site did you see $150/Mbps ? ------------------ Pay-As-You-Go Hosting Below $.90/GB Dedicated Hosting Energizing your business [This message has been edited by RK (edited 08-23-2001).] |

For example, in our Dallas facility, we have lines from Qwest, Level3, UUNET, Exodus and a few others, it doesn't make us a reseller. It just means that we get bandwidth from these companies and provide services that they don't. ------------------ Pay-As-You-Go Hosting Below $.90/GB Dedicated Hosting Energizing your business |

150 a mb/s seems VERY cheap to me. I have purchased bandwidth in the past from servenet
for 220 a mb/s (capped), but i was also consuming 75 mb/s a month. ------------------ Webmasters... Need free gallery content? Tons of quality pics! Now with full FTP! XXXFreeHosting |

It's odd that they bought ad space and created an ad for something that they do not even mention on the web site that ad points to. $150/Mbps seems too good to be true, but it really depends on the billing method and minimum required commitment. |

McPornGuy,
750 is not all that high for burstable bandwidth. When you see people talking about paying 150-300 range it is for capped, meaning that their is no possible way to exceed bw that has been paid for. A perfect example of why you would buy it like this would be for tgp gallery posting on a domain. ------------------ Webmasters... Need free gallery content? Tons of quality pics! Now with full FTP! $150/Mbps is very good, and I am sure they have certain terms that you need to meet to get it.
Dynamichosting offered me $140/Mbps for a project I was talking to them about. The pricing on their site is great, and this is a great program I am thinking about running. I think prices are falling, and if you are a big customer you can definitely get great numbers. Rik |

it still seems expensive the only reason I have stayed there was its supposed to be on a good level3 backbone and in the past its always had 99.9% uptime. and i believe you get what you pay for. lately it really seems to be sucking bad,if I burst over 2.0mbps the server is starting to crash and tech support has no fucking clue on what they are doing or how to fix it! they say they will put me on another supposedly new server with dual 800P3's for no extra charge.
but still wanting to find a new host the only thing is I have already tried moving twice and ended up right back at the same host because the other two i tried ended up sucking so bad. how do i know who i can trust? I really dont care if I save money by moving I just want fast speeds and support that knows what they are doing, and are able to set me up with all the fancy new junk thats out there. lol my current package is Plll 800Mhz 512MB RAM 1 MBPS 1,000 a month Quote:

I just seen that candid banner, it says "as low as $150 per MB" so thats probly if you are going to be using 100MBPS you could get that price.
anyone want to split it? lol |

McPornGuy, we have a connection to Level 3 and six other lines. Feel free to contact me by email or ICQ and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have and give you a free test account on one of our servers so you can test the speed.

Their is a minimum floor obviously on that price. It is to attract the bigger bandwidth user large programs and content providers. Which there are several using large amounts that pay too much for what they use. Just because you don't use large amounts of bandwidth doesn't mean we still won't give you the best price. If anyone would like more info ICQ me I will clarify.
ICQ#100535057 Hope this isn't spam just trying to answer anyones question on the price. And no the website pricing is not up to date sorry. |

An 800 mhz Celeron used to get taxed with 1 major gallery listing.
It's amazing how far the hosting business has come. I wonder if they are more profitable now than they were before. Prices were so high back then that it HAD to allow for a nice markup that no one would have noticed.

150$ per mbps was actually a great price in 01'....
i remember paying $100 a month for a 25gig plan thats right $100...for burning 25 gigs total in a month, that was in ummm 00' before that...jesus, you should have seen the prices in 98 anyways candid hosting was pretty much the only gig in town for many years....& i know some people that were paying over 100$ per mbps up until 2 years ago with them, because they were on 3-4 year contracts ![]()

Oh man this is hilarious.
The downside to bandwidth prices dropping like a rock is that now it's uber cheap to give away a shitload of porn movies. When bandwidth was $150 a meg it was hard to find a members area that had downloadable movies...forget about free sites. Now tube sites give away full reality episodes for a few cents in bandwidth to make money with dating ads. Pretty sick. |

So true. There was a much higher barrier to entry back then as well. There were no bannerless free hosts other than Revshare Hosting. Well, that's not true... Terra.es was the movie host of choice back then. Haha
