I remember back in mid-80's or so commercials with Bill Cosby standing in front of a machine that said "Sweeter Soda" bragging how you wouldn't find Coke in there. Then they did all the switching from New Coke back to the "original formula" (which wasn't) and now it's way sweeter than it was, even though they deny it. To me it was like eating your mother's cooking all your life then someone bring you a plate of food cooked by a stranger and try to tell you it's from your mom.

The bigger problem is their quality control either means nothing to them or high fructose corn syrup breaks down faster than sugar. When I buy Cokes I try to get some with a couple of different dates stamped on them and one will invariable be sweeter/flatter/more off-taste than the other.

So true, you can't go back. Maybe they put a little extra stuff in the diet.
