BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi Governing Council member Ahmed Chalabi said his relations with the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority were "non-existent" after an overnight raid against his house.
"My relationship with the CPA now is non-existent ..." he told reporters after claiming a firefight had narrowly been avoided between his guards and US-backed Iraqi police during the raid. "I am America's best friend in Iraq; if the CPA finds it necessary to direct an armed attack against my home you can see the state of relations between the CPA and the Iraqi people." The former Pentagon (news - web sites) favourite also called on US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) to hand over sovereignty to the Iraqi people without delay. "My message to the CPA is let my people go, let my people be free. We are grateful to President Bush for liberating Iraq (news - web sites) but it is time for the Iraqi people to run their affairs," he told a press conference. He is yet another bad guy who was supported by the US. Who saved his ass from jail? The US of course. He lobbied hard, provided fake intel and got them to invade Iraq. Now that he's realising that he's not so popular with Iraqis he's trying to become friends with Iran in order to get supports from the Shia. There are rumors he provided Iran with some US secrets.
In short, he's a thief who, thanks to lobbies and pressure groups, managed to get the US to bail him out from jail, give him a huge monthly salary and put him in a leadership position in Iraq. Now that things aren't going exactly as planned, he's turning on them. Big surprise from someone who was supposed to be rotting in jail somewhere in Jordan |

The US is probably "concerned" over documents Chalabi might have and use to retaliate against Bush for being kicked out. But Chalabi is an experienced criminal and no doubt such documents have long ago been hidden in places the US will never look. This tells me that either Bush will face yet more scandals over the war, or Chalabi hasn't much longer to live.

The title is misleading. "Chalabi calls it quits"? Yeah right, he'll do anything for power.

He received his last $US 300000.00 monthly payment early may. Payment was to supply "information" on Iraq ( you know, the WMD info...).
The US don't need him anymore, so as usual they are trashing him ( tough he really is trash ). Not the first to be droped: - Noriega - Bin Laden - Kurds in Iraq ....

The one thing about Chalabi that really frosts my ass, is him and his group, Iraqi National Congress have been getting nearly $350K a month for piss-poor intelligence for the last two years leading up to the war and ending two days ago.
That intelligence was for shit, your own grandmother could have told the DIA something better about Iraq than the lies and bullshit Chalabi was feeding them. I almost wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't Chalabi that ordered the car bombing that took out the head of the Iraqi Governing Consul eariler in the week.

Is this the same guy exiled by Iraq and then gave the US "info" on the WMD and other things which all ended up being wrong?
If that is the case then he was already on the outs with the US and had his chance at running Iraq taken away from him.

Japan at war with the United States? You don't say. Allies today. The US at war with Britain? Oh, hell. We Americans started off that way. Today's EU nations fighting each other? Caused a few world wars. Shifting allegiances and strategic partners. No, really? Ten minutes of flipping through any history book will tell you this is the norm, not the exception.

The problem is that he ain't gonna quit. He's a dangerous man that can be a real pain in the ass for the US. He'll do anything for power. I mean look at how he was able to manipulate the US. He shouldn't be underestimated. |

Chalabi Passed U.S. Intelligence to Iran -CBS
Ahmad Chalabi, Washington's former top Iraqi ally whose house in Baghdad was raided by U.S. troops on Thursday, passed sensitive U.S. intelligence to Iran that could "get Americans killed," CBS Evening News said. "Senior U.S. officials told us today that they have evidence Chalabi has been passing highly classified U.S. intelligence to Iran," the report said on Thursday. "The evidence shows that Chalabi personally gave Iranian intelligence officers information so sensitive that if revealed it could ... 'get Americans killed.' The evidence is said to be 'rock solid."' http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...labi_report_dc Who would trust anything Bush's lying fall guy has to say? |
