That sounds like a personal problem, but really not on topic now, is it?

It should also be pointed out that "one of the best in the country" public schools, will not even be in the same group as the best private schools.

Most students don't realize when they are taking geometry that this can help them in becoming a professional pool player, or that advanced math classes can be used to help them become gamblers with an advantage.

What good is History class? Oh yeah, because those that fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it.

What you take away from school is up to you. You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him do the backstroke.

I went to a catholic school in canada, they are coed.

They just released the rankings of schools here in Ontario and again the catholic schools scored higher than the public schools in my city.

anyhow i disagree that its about coed schools, its more the rules and regulations. In a catholic school its not just well thats bad, its thats bad and god doesn't like that ... blah. Plus in catholic high schools here you have to wear uniforms.

In catholic schools you learn religion, and go to mass while in public schools they teach you other more important things.

All we ever did in religion class was goof off and same with when they brought us to church during school. My friends that went to public schools went to wood shop classes and stuff like that instead of learning religion.

Looks like it could get interesting. Same Sex schools might provide better education because all but 10 of them are privately funded and charge tuitions, so they can afford better teachers, materials, etc. It will be interesting to see if publicly funded same sex schools can keep up the trend.

I think it COULD be a good thing, but I doubt the officials are going to handle it that well.

i see your education granted you the right to attempt to be condesending.

i, and no one else for that matter, should try to open your eyes. vote bush and live in the stone age.

i see that segregation and same sex marriage situations should take precedent to rising oil and gas prices, it should also take precedent over the economy but hey what do i know, i went to public school.

Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha . . . .so, I decided to go read the link provided to start this thread. Pretty interesting.

1.
Quote:
Bush Push For Single-Sex Schools

WASHINGTON, May 9, 2002
Old news I guess.

2.
Quote:
Only 10 single-sex public schools exist now, with two more expected to open this fall, according to Dr. Leonard Sax, a psychologist and physician who heads the National Association for the Advancement of Single Sex Public Education.

The Young Women's Leadership School, a public school for girls in the Harlem neighborhood of New York, enrolls 370 students. Among its mix of black, Asian and Hispanic students from low- and upper-income families, virtually all go on to college.

The school has operated for six years and currently has a waiting list of 1,200 for three ninth-grade slots, said guidance counselor Chris Farmer.

Guess it disproves the flying lizard's theory that it is only because rich parents care more.

3.
Quote:
Congress' education bill, approved last year and signed by Mr. Bush in January, clarified federal law on single-sex schooling, saying school districts could receive federal funding for single-sex schools and classes if comparable coursework and facilities are available to both girls and boys.
So, this bill has already been signed into law, and it is really just allowing Federal funding instead of prohibiting it. In no way is Bush attempting to descriminate or segregate.

All you public school students should try reading once in a while. Don't just look at the headlines and the pretty pictures.

If oil and gas prices bother you, then surely you too are going to vote for Bush and not Kerry, since 54% of the price of gasoline at the pump is tax and Kerry wants to raise that.

Hey missy, read the fucking article, okay. I am not being condescending, you are just coming up with stupid analogies, that is not my fault.

Oh, for the record, I am not Republican, and did not vote for Bush, and will not vote for Bush. I am just smart enough to know what works, and be able to separate fact from fiction

i admit i failed to read the article as well however you based your answers on NOT reading as well. dont try to make yourself look better NOW! you based your responses on WHAT exactly?

now if you paid for that education and didnt read the article beforehand, then you really should not be calling ANY kettle black my friend.

jesus christ you have a pair on you that need to be cut.

oh and the bottom line, segregation of any kind, according to laws that are written, IS WRONG. personal opinions do not count.

The MAIN reason why people are having lower grades than they should is because they dont study or do their homeworks... PERIOD! I have never been distracted by girls in my class checking their legs or whatever... but remember thinking to myself many times that it is a good thing that there's good looking girl at my school to actually motivate me to go there day after day... School is as boring as it is... dont make it even more when its NOT needed....

A couple interesting facts.

1. True, in that article from 2002 they stated that there were only 10 publically funded school. Who knows how many there are now, however, I think the results from those schools pretty much tell the story. Allowing schools to segregate the classrooms does work.

2. While you might think that a privately funded highschool could afford the better teachers, facilities, and materials, nothing could be further from the truth. . . . at least in the case of the school I went to.

Because we were privately funded most of our teachers were nuns, and Franciscan friars. The lay teachers did not have to have the same accreditation that would be required at a public school.

We could not afford to have a swimming pool, so our CIF Champion water polo team had to practice at the public high school facilities We did not have a cafeteria, we had a snack bar, staffed by our parents.

The only thing we got that the public schools did not get was strict discipline and a better education.

Let me guess, you went to a Catholic elementary school. Yes, in grade school the classes are coed, and you do learn religion in religion class. However, next year, when you enter high school you will discover that religion classes will probably teach you about other religions (so you can understand how the other guy thinks) and sex education.

Tough I am not american ( so a non-voter). I can share your dilemma.

I think that people voting for Kerry will be in fact voting against Bush.
Those voting either Bush or Nader will be in fact voting for what these candidates represent and their policies.

At the worst, Bush can only have another 4 years to screw things up a bit more, if that is possible.

And Bush wants less homosexuals? Putting girls and boys in separete schools isn't going to help THAT. My thought as a lez

uh... lol like its nothing... Teachers are splitting their heads trying to motivate their students... the drop out rate is very alarming in Canada and probably in the US too... Being motivated and happy in your work environment or school will influence greatly your performances...

I know it did it for me...

And what I was SAYING actually is seperate classrooms for guys and girls is not the answer to better performance but could actually have opposite results for alot of people.. like me.. bottom line... to each his own... you dont mind being with guys all the time. go for it!

WTF are you talking about? We learned sex education in elementary school not high school, and yes it was a catholic school.

Next year, uhh okay.

Yes they had religion classes in high school, and if you read my message that was the part they had uniforms for.

The first two years of catholic highschool religion class where I was from was bible studies. Then in gr. 11/12 you learn a bit about world religions. Then they also make you do 30 hours of community service (this was gr. 13) which they recently eliminated, and moved to the gr. 12 curriculum.

In the public schools you could take whatever you wanted, we had manditory religion classes which counted as a social science.

I did take a first year university world religions course which I did very well on despite not attending class because we did learn that stuff in gr. 11 and 12, but only because it was an easy credit for me. I would have been better off taking a course where I could have learnt something more usefull.

People are trying to compare things that simply don't exist in large enough amounts to make any statistical assessments.

10 public same-sex schools in the U.S. lol.

b.t.w. most of the elite private 9-12 schools as well as colleges across the country have gone coed. I'll still send my future kids to my selected schools in a heartbeat.

IMHO the problem is not the environment as much as it is the resources given to the schools, the restrictions on admissions and the envolvement of the parents.

If you open a new magnet school, select the best brightest students from public schools by arranging highly-selective admissions, and devote an engergetic teaching (lots of new teachers) staff with plenty of resources...then what do you think will happen?

(whether it is coed or same-sex).

It's pretty amusing listening to all your private school ninnies sit up on your high horse.

The fact is with your oh-so-superior education, you still ended up doing internet porn. Bravo for you.

what? so you think private schools are all that? there's very few that are worth a dime. typically its a better environment with more motivated students but thats about it, which is resulting in better SAT scores, etc. the actual learning is shit.

you don't develop the skills that need to be developed prior to university that are necessary for a higher education. so then universities are held back on what they can teach because of all the idiots.

if you're too blind to see that the current school system isn't cracked up to what it should be, then allow the better educated chinese and indians to take more and more jobs within the next 10-20 years. thats the reality right now.

learn to read. they take more of an interest, typically because a) they're more educated b) they're flipping the bill and want to see that their kids aren't slacking off and essentially flushing the money down the hole.

I don't think that would help, being a smart is depeds on the individual itself, even they segregate its genders it woould not help them, they must give focuss on giving a much quality education not on the segregation drama

the only things i've read that supports segregated classrooms is that girls typically feal scared to speak up in class because of all the alpha males.

but that goes right back to poor education when they're younger. a better education system would make children more confident in their abilities.

people are too dumb to think of the real cause, so they look for the wrong solutions.

our system sux as well

there needs to be major and i mean major changes to the education system in north america(mexico doesn't count, they should stick to learning how to make beer).

segregation isn't the answer to a better education. improving leadership skills, interpersonal skills, deductive reasoning skills and project management skills would be a big step forward. its a combination of a couple school system models already in place.

being in a class with our without the opposite sex doesn't address anything. its a half ass solution(if you can call it a solution) that wasn't thought out.

I went to a private, single-sex school (although in the UK we call them public schools) and the education was certainly of a much higher standard than that of the vast majority of state funded schools.

However, I believe the difference was due to greater discipline, superior facilities and because the school could hire the best teachers. I also spent more hours in school and got more homework than friends in state schools.

Because my school since has since gone co-ed without any apparent effect on educational standards, I cannot argue any benefit from segregation.

bingo, people see a correlation that isn't there. the better quality education is correlated with other factors and not segregation.

if you segregate the sexes in school, you will have a bunch of adults with no kind of social skills with the opposite gender.

besides, a lot of programs like music and art were pulled from our local public schools here to pay for the war. it's been proven time and again by educators, doctors and psychologists that kids who have enrichment like music do very well with education.

why not keep the girls and boys together and simply let them have their music?

People here make me laugh -- I love revisionist history.

Quote:
Bush says boys and girls shouldn't attend the same school
Back in the real world, Senator Clinton (D) and Senator Kay Bailey (R) co-sponsored an amendment to the 2001 education bill to permit single-sex education in public schools which passed the Senate with unanimous consent and subsequently was signed into law.

Carry on with you Bush is doing this and Bush is doing that rants though. They are quite intertaining.
