we are not even comparing stock to stock here. but souped up against stock. either way they are both kick ass cars

Of course I am.. .lol
I'm just saying my *fixed up* m5 will smoke a new one because its just setup to do so.

Obviously when Dinan does their s2 pack for the new M5 it will smoke my old one. But its going to be fun at first. It will take Dinan a year after the M5 is released to come out with all the upgraded. And I'll have a blast pulling up to guys in the their new M5's and beating them with my old one :)

Of couse once Dinan come out with their s2 pack for the new one I will have to trade my old one in :)

Either way, even stock that new m5 is badass!!!!

Mate

I know the numbers favor your car, but the sites and sounds would make for one great day!!!

Hell ya.. that would be awesome!!!

PenisFace 03-02-2004 01:28 PM

Side view of it looks alot like the Acura TSX in my opinion... One great car maker borrowing from another.. nothing wrong with that :winkwink:

Agreed. I like the old M5 better though.
I don't see why BMW needed to change their designs this radically.

Dinan tested it and it was closer to 5.0. So I can imagine BMW's numbers on the new M5 will be off the same

Also, the S2 Dinan has different rear end gearing and a 6lb flywheel which makes it rev up very very very fast.

There is no comparison.. I will smoke a new M5 :)

I dunno where you get your info, but officially E39 M5 is 5.5sec 0-62mph or 5.2sec 0-60.
Most auto manufactures lower their acceleration numbers.

Dinan S2 will not come close to E60 M5.
Unless you are sporting Nowack, RMS or Dinan supercharer NA E39 will be eaten by E60 M5.

postWhore and PlatinumPimp, just looked up the best numbers I could find on the 99 -03 M5.....check it:

4/02 Motor Trend "Max Factory Heat" BMW M takes on M-B AMG

"02" M5
0-60 MPH, sec 4.6
1/4 mile, [email protected] (I've seen a few different higher numbers here)....you gotta take into account tires, driver, track conditions, altitude, etc....

I must say that when LAMIKE said 470 BHP, he knows what he is talking about....that is 470 at the wheels guys which translates into ~540 BHP (lots of hp lost at the crank). Now, I dont know if the s2 can hang or not. Never seen any numbers to back either car up to date...speculation is fun though:thumbsup

Shoehorn! 03-02-2004 03:28 PM

Awwww yes. That is a nice car.

mammy 03-02-2004 03:29 PM

but your bmw looks real hot too:thumbsup

The number I posted were official BMW numbers.
My point was BMW and most other manufactures LOWER acceleration times.

Dinan rates their cars at the flywheel, not RWHP.
Dinan S2 package includes
Intake, exhaust, software, TBs, exhaust, headers and other bunch of stuff that are non-HP related.
Only in ricers world those bolt-ons will give you 140hp

Damn, they do rate the hp at the crank....thanks for the info. Hey!!! I used to be a ricer :thumbsup I had a 94 MKIV Twin Turbo Supra with some nice, clean mods and a 93 NSX. The Supra's horse power went through the roof with BPU (since it was turbo charged....simply putting on down pipes, intake & exhaust added almost 6 psi).....gotta love turbo charging.

PostWhore 03-02-2004 04:17 PM

yeah but still BPU mods on supras do not give your 140hp.
and m5 is NA, which is more expensive and harder to squeeze hp out.

Funny I see this posted. I actually drove in one of the prototypes that was around last summer at my place of internship.

It was the usual new 5 series body, but (I believe) with the new engine already mounted. They were testing the breaks and suspension on a round track.

Fuckin beast. That's all I'm gonna say.

Can't wait for it to come out in 2005.

:thumbsup

acctman 03-02-2004 04:36 PM

it's to long looking... nothing better then the M3 and 3series
