Do you think soldiers really enjoy their career?

Do you think soldiers really enjoy their job once they get into the reality of what they have to do and endure day in and day out?

You watch them on TV and it looks like they can't wait to get the hell out of that career.

Must be fun from the adventure aspect, but that's got to wear off after a couple weeks of people shooting at you and trying to blow you up.

You talk with some jar heads and those guys are soldiers to the bone. Its a special mentality but if you can move up the ranks over time its a juicy 20 years and out with awesome benefits.

It's a job just like everything else. I'm sure it has its up and downs like any other job.

The key is to learn with every step.

I'm a Lieutenant and I DID NOT enjoy my "career". Then again, military service was mandatory so I had to do it.

One of my friends is in Iraq right now and I don't think he likes being there that much. I talk to him on MSN sometimes, but he is on really weird times because of the time difference.

I enjoyed all eight years in the Army especially when I got the chance to put all my training to use. I have no regrets.

My husband is an an Army Reserve soldier and loves it....hooah!

And yeah, ladies love soldiers of any branch... something about a uniform... (grrrrr!) ... I've gotta do a site of military men for women... it's a big fucking dissapointment for a gal to scope out military porn and find nothing but gay content (anybody have a 'pout' icon? I could use one right now. )

Do you know of any military porn for women? <-- can't hurt to ask!

I think they probably do not relish having to kill people, but I have no experience as a soldier, so I could be way off. I do believe that their sense of duty and honor is stronger than any other person in this country and it blows me away that they're willing to sacrifice their lives to fulfill that duty.

I have a buddy in Iraq right now... he got to come home over Christmas and he definitely did NOT want to go back, but he had to.

Worst thing is, this is a really nice kid and he is being forced to do some fucked up shit.

They go down streets searching EVERY single house for 'weapons' ... but he said they really just go in a break shit and steal whatever they want from helpless people, and if you don't participate you will get in deep shit with your CO's. He hates it, isn't a mean person by nature and doesn't like being forced to abuse helpless people, but has to in order to save his own skin.

Pretty sad.

I think they enjoy it at the beggining, and some even throughout their career. It just depends on what kind of person they are. The hardcore guys definetly enjoy it.

Yes, it's pretty sad that your friend doesn't have the fortitude to go above his CO's and complain that he's supposedly being "forced" to steal. And if they're stealing "whatever they want" and doesn't want anything, then he's not being forced to steal, so it seems.....

Not to mention, neither you, I, nor your friend know if these are "helpless" people.

So VERY true. I spent 25 years on active duty, including Berlin (while the wall was still up and we had to go on patrol behind it), Vietnam as a unit commander with the 4th Infantry Div, and Saudi Arabia pre-Gulf war. It was ALL reflective of the above quote.

And, yes, at one time I was on the Staff & Faculty at West Point, while I now fu*k on film for a living:-)))

*shrug* whatever. Just relaying what he told me, maybe I didn't get it quite right.

Yeah, it is sad that he doesn't have the 'fortitude to go above' those who hold his life in their hands. He's always been such a pussy.

"Forced to steal" ... That's not exactly what I was trying to say. Just that there's pressure to act a certain way, and if you don't it is very easy for someone to pull rank and make your life hell.

No need to argue, the real point of my post: Some people in the army hate their 'jobs'.

It wasn't bad, I'm glad I did it. I was infantry though so when PT got to be more of a chore rather than fun it was time for me to move on. There are some excellent schools for stuff that you would never find nor really need in civilian life but for me at the time were the reason for living. To think at 19 I was in scout/sniper school learning to be sneaky and kill at long distances is kinda bothersome as I look at some of the 19 year-olds now lol..
