I have a condo that gained 15-20% value since I bought it, but I drive a shit car that cant loose any value ;)

You think its more important to impress chicks than to have assets? That's really your decision buddy.

In a couple of years Ill sell the condo and have plenty of money for the downpayment on the house I really want.

I want a rec-room, I want a pool table, home cinema, guest bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and, eventually, sound proof studio.

You dont need any of those? Well... hrm.... maybe if you had some friends....

It's called Real Estate!!!! Putting your money back into your pocket.

So you think if you have an apartment, that you are never at, and pay SOMEONE ELSE, let's say $2000 a month, that that is smarter than say OWNING an apartment, that you are never at, and paying $2000 a month to YOURSELF??

Nydahl 12-02-2003 01:45 PM

looks like you are talking about me.I drive BMW but live in small apartment now.True is that I also have nice house in the mountains + I left nice and large aparment to my ex GF so its just for a while.
I remmeber that Jamiraque (not sure about spelling of that singers name) bought a new Lambo from his first income and living in the trailer that time:2 cents:

Micah - Drizunk 12-02-2003 01:47 PM

this is the reason I buy old cars. status, looks, cheap as shit, and you can fuck with whatever you want and theres no government regulations, ie smog and the like.
When youre all done, the bank account still looks healthy and not like a starving somolian.:winkwink:

I used to live in a small apartment with a great view and drive a status car.

I now own 3 properties with no view and still drive the status car. Am I still lame? :(

Seems alot of you know what your doing with Real Estate, maybe
your just talking out of your ass like a good number on gfy, in any
matter. It doesnt make sense for me to put my nose where it dont
belong, if i am worried about making money i will make it the same
way i did to get the beamer.

To all you advice giving people that live with your mom. :321GFY

It's just a matter of being smart with your money. Making your money work for you. Spend your money wisely and invest it. Make your money make money!!! :winkwink:

Theo 12-02-2003 02:04 PM

the only question that applies on such decisions should be:

"Which one makes you happier"

Twe Russ 12-02-2003 02:04 PM

Homo swears everyone has money laying around all over the place
for downpayments, or time to deal with buying anything, give yourself
a fucking clue before you talk any shit.

Even your mother knows its better to buy then rent, thats not what's
being discussed. :321GFY

Thats correct darling, thats why you dont go buying NYC condos for 300,000+ - doesnt make any sense.
I dont do houses, i mentioned multiple reasons, money making wasnt the discussion. Thanks for the tip though. :thumbsup

Heh I am not a big cleaning fan. I also like to live relatively private without other people around. One of my goals in life is however to own a nice little apartment/buidling and have a few nice cars.

I have never been big into housesand I found that out while living in one (3500 sq feet). The solution was roomates, I don't have the nicest cars either (truck and jeep) but I will get a nicer car before I get a nicer house

galleryseek 12-02-2003 02:22 PM

a true "pimp" can get girls being poor. ;P those who rely on nice cars, big houses, and expensive clothing to score w/ girls are only revealing their low self esteem. (or the fact that they're ugly and couldn't get 'em any other way)

well if you are not wasting your money on a fancy car that should be okay but then again a moderate size house value in a good area appreciates more over time than a condo(apt). I lived in a condo/apartment and I also lived in a house all by myself in the past and tell you it's nicer living in a house even when you are alone specially when you know you won't lose a cent instead may profit some with the house that you bought. You gotta think about your future children too what you do now will effect them in future. Othewise they may badly miss the money you wasted on stupid stuff and have them face proverty. Also, when have a house of your own and maybe a couple rental properties no-one will tell you not to buy a fancy car then :winkwink:

atomic2500 12-02-2003 03:02 PM

this is the way it is in S Florida
nice ride, no house.:pimp

GeXus 12-02-2003 03:08 PM

It all depends....
There are appartments in manhattan that are only 700 square feet.. but cost around 400,000 year.. They are very modern, high tech design, very nice appartments, small yes, but nice...

Depending on location sometimes size isnt always important, right now I live in a 5 bedroom, 4 bath house, with finished basement, its accually pretty nice, but its about 10 years old.. back then it cost around 300k, now its about 700k, but to be honest, i would preffer a 400k appartment in manhatten then where I am living now. Sure the space is nice (i guess), but there isnt shit to do.

Your numbers are a little off, at least for California...

A nice house will run you at the very least $750,000.

I have both a nice house and a nice BMW

But the house comes first. I'd rather live in my nice house and drive a ford pinto than live in an apratment and drive my BMW.

I've noticed that as I get older (I'm 33) I care less and less about what other people think. Not that I really cared much about it before. But I spend far more time in my house than in my car, so the cars just arent as important anymore.

Anybody have an old Jeep for sale?

Yeah thats nuts. A webmaster can pretty much make the same amount of money anywhere as long as he has good internet connection. So spend that money where it buys a much nicer place to live.

Not necessarily. Smart money says you will be better off renting an apartment and investing the difference between the rent you pay and the total monthly cost of owning a same size apartment.

Not in an environment of a rising real estate market and low interest rates.

The value of my house has more than doubled in the last six years.

BradShaw 12-02-2003 04:29 PM

I call them $30,000 a year millionaires. Many idiots around here drive nice BMW's yet make $30k a year.

Real estat is cyclical and has shown to underperform the stock market in the long term. In fact, smart money, says to never hold more than 15% of your assets in real estate.

freeadultcontent 12-02-2003 04:43 PM

I own a house and 2 rental units. I also own a piece of shit car.

For me a car is just transportation to get me from point a to point b and the cheaper the better. I just get cheap ass cars that I can run into the ground and throw away instead of fix. The insurance is dirt cheap, almost zero upkeep costs, and some "status" means jack shit to me.

Hell the cost of a luxury car would buy me 20 to 30 throw away cars at least.

qwe 12-02-2003 04:47 PM

heh ...

Whoever made enough $ to buy bmw shouldn't have a huge problem buying a house later on in future...

I fucking hate haters, let people do what the fuck they want with their money.

MarinersFan 12-02-2003 04:57 PM

Dark Jedi,

You are so right .. people are fucking morons with their money!

I own a mortgage company so I see lots of people's personal finances. You wouldn't believe how many people with good incomes have NO MONEY because they piss it away on fancy cars and stuff.

What's even worse is guys who make very little money but put it all into a new car, like that BMW guy you were talking about it.

Naughty 12-02-2003 05:16 PM

You don't think world goes round according to what "smart money" says now do you? I have a cousin that owns 80 apartments and a relative that buys and sells houses and both got about 100% of their assets in real estate. Each of 'em got more than 1 fancy car but bought 'em long after they bought their first houses.. and oh if you tell them about smart money they'd prolly say.. well.. prolly won't say anything but just laugh out loud that's all :1orglaugh

The moment you drive your $60k car off the lot you've lost $10k.

Two months after you move into your new house you've already made $10k.

I moved into my house exactly a year ago. The house next to me, which is smaller, just sold for $100k more than I paid for my house.

Do the math. Buy a house.

The way things are going for adult webmasters it's only gonna get harder. Besides millionaire? These show off beemer owners are mostly barely thousandnaire, may soon feel lucky to become hundrednaire lol.

Around here you can buy a house and your total monthly payments will be the same or less as if you were renting, so that isn't going to work in many areas.
