There were some parts that seemed like they were together, the way they looked at each other and what not. Plus, Merry and Pippin seemed a little gay as well. However, in the end, sam ended up with the Big Breasted Bar Maid, so maybe he's just bi?

the rest of the fellowship didnt even need frodo they could have just pushed the ring in a wheelbarrow and then not have to worry about it

thats hilarious.

however. frodo was the only one who could do it cuz he was the MOST INNOCENT and PURE HEARTED person in the movie. innocence is the only defense against the evil of the ring. anyone else would have taken it and become as evil as saruman or sauron.

my girlfriend said she didn't really get frodo's character either so i can see why some people don't get it.

OK... we all can imagine how tough it was for you guys to pull yourselves away from your Dungeons and Dragons marathons for a few minutes to debate the sexual orientation of fictitious characters in a movie adaptation of a book. impressive!

I don't really see what the big deal is about. Is it really surprising that the movie has "gay" undertones when you consider that JRR Tolkien was bisexual? Move on, gay is just another sexual orientation, no more no less.

Captain Kirk? Hmmm I don't know he seemed to have bedded so many alien chicks you'd think he was the Interstellar version of Don Juan.

No one in the books was gay, and none of them acted gay...

One of the things that people did not like about the first movies was that they ended just like the books. But wehn I saw the movies, I was disappointed... They were ok.. Off from the books, but ok.. I have not seen the third one yet.

IMO all it did was to expose the homophobia. I'm glad the director didn't avoid scenes like Frodo kissing Sam on the forehead. Proves that he is not afraid of the narrowminded to interpret things in a different way.

Is it homosexual when russians kiss eachother on the lips?

The way the hobbits act in the emotional situations was consistent with how their characters have been portrayed in these stories i think.

The relationship between Frodo and Sam is outdated now. But when it was written, it made perfect sense. Gandalf told Frodo to bring Sam along as his manservant, to help carry stuff and whatnot. So Sam calls him "Master Frodo". It's very classist, but that's how it was. Greek phillosphy stated that a servant loves his master above himself, because his master in return will take care of everything for him. Anyways, they become good friends, what with saving each other's lives every other day, so they grow close. And males back then weren't afraid to admit they loved each other.

But if I see one more person, hobbit or otherwise, well up with tears, I'm gonna scream.

problem here is most 17-19 yo people (that means 99.23% of GFY members) don't realize that this film was made over a book with almost 70 years old. And in all that time, the homosexuality of Tolkien and his characters was widely discussed: yes, no, who cares, blah-blah-blah. And basically, it all ends in WHO CARES. The book is great (the movie is quite poor, but whatever) and if Frodo or even Sauron is gay, that's part of the book. You like it or you don't.

Lord of the Earrings

The relationship between Frodo and Sam is outdated now. But when it was written, it made perfect sense. Gandalf told Frodo to bring Sam along as his manservant, to help carry stuff and whatnot. So Sam calls him "Master Frodo". It's very classist, but that's how it was. Greek phillosphy stated that a servant loves his master above himself, because his master in return will take care of everything for him. Anyways, they become good friends, what with saving each other's lives every other day, so they grow close. And males back then weren't afraid to admit they loved each other.

But if I see one more person, hobbit or otherwise, well up with tears, I'm gonna scream.
another good post on this subject. that makes like 3 since the thread started. the rest of you are repressed homos and probably think bert and ernie were gay too

Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

It was a sign of the times, as said earlier. You'll see all kinds of references like this in older, classical literature. Sayings like 'he loved his master, more than he loved himself' or knights who 'love their king.'

Kissing a ring or a hand, male to male, was always a sign of fealty and obedience. And the big, hairy, badass guys who carried swords and killed for a living didn't think much of hugging each other hello, even though their views on homosexuality were narrower than Strom Thurman's.

Finally, a kiss on the forehead was considered a sexless benediction. Like a blessing.

Thou must suspendth the views of our times, and yea, verily, adopt those of old, lest you think the hobbits gay...

Besides, what about the REAL debate?

Were the hobbits pot heads, or not?

Saruman tells Gandalf his 'love of the hobbit leaf' clouded his judgement. And the hobbits ALWAYS have the munchies...

They called it tobacco. The premium brand was "Longbottom Leaf". That's it. No hallucinogenics, just tobacco.

From the Two Towers: "Well master, we're in a fix and no mistake," said Sam Gamgee.

"What can I do Mr. Frodo? What can I do?"

So Sam calls him both. Also, the way the voices are written, Sam has a very low-class, rural "accent" whereas Frodo speaks proper English in full sentences more often, reinforcing the class distinction between them.

Gollum also recognizes Frodo as the person in charge.

"But master has gone to sleep, and perhaps Sam wants to sleep. Doesn't want rabbits now?" (Gollum to Sam in TTT)

Seriously, people. Sometimes I hate newbies

Absolutely correct.

For 10,000 dollars - Gandalf was the keeper of a ring of power, true or false?

I can't find my copy of the first book, but I believe he was a guardian for a short while, but lost it for whatever reason. It wasn't his to use, though.
