Best place to get a good deal on a car? Online?
Wife likes the new volvo xc90. Where's the best place online to get a car these days?
I don't have the best track record at dealerships. http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...threadid=79569 |

XC90 is one of the top 10 demand cars, there are no good deals. An example is carsdirect.com

The Volvo XC90 is a cool SUV.
I bought a car recently and went through Coscto's program. First, I priced them through carsdirect.com (the lowest I found for my car) and a few others. Costco came in slightly under carsdirect. |

COSTCO? didn't even know they sold cars. Helps if I had a membership. What ever happened to priceclub? still have that card in my wallet.

The program works like this: each Coscto produces a pamphlet of approved local fleet dealers. You call them up and get an appointment, talk to no one else. Once there, they show you the actual invoice (who knows if it really is), and their bottom line price - usually a tiny bit over invoice. I knew through research what the car was selling for at the bottom end, and they beat it. No game playing. In and out with a new car in about an hour. |

Consumer reports has a deal where they'll send you the dealer's invoice for the car you're looking at. At least that way you'll know what the dealer paid for the car. (Not sure if that's available online though)
Sam's club also has a program set up with dealers where you can buy cars for a couple hundred bucks over invoice. But like Lensman said, if the car is in high demand then the dealer isn't going to budge because he doesn't have to.
