I've heard:

1. "Holy shit this beer is good, I'm drunk already!!"

2. "Why the fuck are they punting, it's only 3rd down!!"

3. "Yeah this place is great, but dude, where's your igloo?"

4. "Y'all eat a lot less bacon than I expected"

5.

6.

7.

8.

Any more?

Things I've heard Americans say about England and the English - no doubt most of them have Canadian equivalents:

1. I've got a friend who lives in England - do you know him? I think he lives in London.
2. Does it always rain? (If it's raining)
3. Why isn't it raining? (If it's not raining)
4. Is that near London?
5. Why do you drive on the wrong side of the road?
6. Why do you spell words like "colour" wrong? I thought you invented the language...
7. Is the UK near Scotland?
8. Where are all the thatched cottages?
9. Do you have electricity?
10. Have you met the Queen?

On a Caribbean cruise... Some tourist from Calif asked.. "You have a lot of staff on board, do they all sleep on the ship?"

That was answered by, "They don't sleep on the ship, they are taken back to the mainland by helicopter each night"

At the end of the cruise, vouchers were handed in on the cruise ratings... One was, "I loved every minute of it, but the helicopters kept me awake at night".

Sheesh...

Back in the early 90's I was at a business convention in Atlanta, and during that weekend there was a huge snowstorm across the entire East coast...... it dropped a whopping 3 whole inches of snow in Georgia, litterally shutting down the entire state. While looking out the window of the World Congress Center at some mental cases having a snowball fight in the middle of the street, a guy from Louisianna asked me "Hey, y'all 'r from Caynada, right? What d'ya'll do when it snows up there like this?"

I said "Well, we go outside, we brush the snow off our cars, and we go to work."

My previous employer was from England. And we were moving offices and she went to hand me a box full of computer mice... and as she did she said "I don't know what we should do with these mices... mouses... what ever."

And I looked at her and said "mices? Didn't you people invent the language?"

Some may not "get" this....

We were "mesmerised" the first time we saw US TV... three faces glued to the screen kinda "wondering" if it was "real TV" or some comedy....

This guy comes on with a pot of paint - it was a "home decorating" program.

He explains that "first we need to open the pot of paint before we start to decorate..." Duh?

That was "it"... three heads turned and looked at each other in amazement that this crap needed "explaining"....

But sadly I keep seeing touches of Forrest Gump daily now, - but hell, that would suggest disrespect to Forrest

I've had people from both LA and San Fran visit me here in Winnipeg, as well as people from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, and a ton of other cities. I hear the "this city is so CLEAN" comments all the time.

Winnipeg also enjoys a much lower crime rate overall. Except for murders.... per capita we haven't done well with our percentage of murders. But crime in general is much lower here than our larger counterparts.

I said "Well, we go outside, we brush the snow off our cars, and we go to work."
A few things people from the north don't understand about snow in the south:

1) It rarely freezes and stays above freezing. Therefore, when it gets above freezing, it melts. Then it gets below freezing. So there's ice - not snow - on the roads. Since it's usually not freezing WHEN it snows, then there is ice on the ground first, and then the snow. You don't just "brush off" an inch of ice on your car, the roads or the sidewalks.
2) We don't have snow tires for the 1 day every 2 years we might need them.
3) Ditto for snow chains
4) We don't have plows for the roads. Any. Period. So once you "brush off" that snow, have fun sliding all over the ice slicked roads!
5) We have very few sand and salt trucks and most of them are dispatched to the bridges and overpasses on the interstates.

My ex was from Baltimore and he always laughed about the fools in GA that couldn't drive in the snow. Then we had "Snow Jam '82" (I'm old - remember.....). He never made fun of us again after trying to drive in "3 inches of snow".

And if you were here in 1993, we had 12-18 inches of snow - and it was the Blizzard of 93 that crippled most of the east coast from FL on up.

Wake me up when there's a "things Canadians are most heard saying when visiting America" thread. Hmm, wait, we don't care.

Also, the English are known pretty much worldwide as the worst tourists, so I don't wanna hear it.

That was no "12 to 18 inches of snow" luv. No way, no how. Sorry. Georgians can tell themselves whatever they want. It was 3-5 inches tops.

Do you really think that living up here in Winnipeg where I have seen 25 foot snowdrifts in my life, where a six-inch snowfall can creat 5 foot drifts with the wind, where in late fall or early spring we regularly get blizzards that dump tons of snow, then the weather plays the "freeze & thaw, freeze & thaw" game for weeks, that we don't understand all that stuff you listed?? Oh please.

Myself and my 2 travelling companions from Winnipeg drove my '86 Firebird out of Atlanta on the Monday after that blizzard hit the East coast. A Firebird. No chains, no snowtires. We were directed off of the interstate going North to Chattanooga because a semi had slid off the highway just North of Atlanta.... we cut over to a lesser highway running north/south and we took that for about 70 miles or so until we could cut back over to the Interstate. The traffic going South to Atlanta was backed up almost halfway to the Tennessee line.

We were the lone vehicle going North.

Sorry, I realize that the southern states aren't equipped to handle even that much snow, but don't be overly sensitive about my post..... being from here where we live in a deep freeze for over 5 months of every year, it was funny to watch whole states being shoved into chaos by what would amount to a fairly normal snowfall here.

And we carry little ice-scrapers in our cars. We actually DO clean off our cars, ice and all, and off to work we go.

93... the year it thundered while it snowed. We had more than 2 feet on the ground over the two snows we got that week, which was pretty much a record for us... 99... argh, the last year I lived on the east coast. Freaking kids were out of school for 3 weeks and we had more than a foot of snow on the ground for almost a month, mixed with layers of ice.

Where was that? I know that in areas closer to New York there was much heavier snowfall than where we were.

Of course many people suggested that us "damn Canadians brought their winter with them!!" ha ha

Of course we did.

I lived just north of Atlanta at the time and we had 12-18 inches and our drifts were 3ft+. I have pictures with measuring sticks and everything! I couldn't get my car out for 5 days because there was a 2+ foot drift on my garage. Maybe you guys left before the real stuff hit. I also lost about 20 LARGE trees due to the wind.

Yeah, semis are always sliding off the road in 3 inches of pure snow. And that was just the interstate. The body shops had 30 day backups due to ice skids that year.

I guess every one that WOULD have been on that road was from the south......

Trust me - I'm not overly sensitive about it in any way, shape or form. I know what it's like down here and I know I almost slid off my driveway in 4WD low in TWO inches of "snow" this winter. I've driven in 2 feet of snow in the north and never had a problem.

C'mon down next January-March and we'll try and get something for you to test your mettle on!

That was by far the wildest crap! It's blowing like hell, snowing like crazy....and THUNDER!

Were you in Roswell that year? We were in Smyrna. Somehow we never lost power (thank you, underground wiring....). The kid was ticked because the cable was out.

Here in Ellijay, folks were w/o power for almost 2 weeks.

Come to think of it, I believe I did hear that it snowed further down there AFTER we'd gotten almost all the way back to Winnipeg. The weekend that blizzard hit though, the city of Atlanta was finished with like 3, maybe 5 inches of snow. I watched as people had gang-snowball-fights in the middle of a downtown street that would otherwise be full of traffic. It was.... funny. And a bit weird, but in a good way. :D

It's just amusing though, I mean it seriously takes a good amount of snow here before we start shutting anything down, ever. Snow-removal up here is a multi-billion-dollar a year industry.

I've heard that too. A lot of the people I know from back home always seem suprised when they find out we don't live in caves and we do have modern appliances, etc.
