How do you guys feel about unsolicited phone spam? recordings...

I just got a call from a recorded sales pitch that left a phone number to call to claim my special deal. I asked him how he got my phone number and he told me that he bought a list from a broker. I told him if he calls me again that I'll sue him. His reply: "Get in line." His number is 800-648-4379, maybe you should call him and ask if he has your phone number. Me, I'm going to file a complaint with the BBB.

So, what's your opinion on these type of calls? He had to pay for my phone number, I'm giving you his for FREE! 800-648-4379

I just hang up... or better yet if I catch it on caller id I just don't answer it.

If I answer and it's a live person I just set the phone down and walk away.

They're easy enough to spot....the few seconds of silence gives you a chance to hang up...I wonder how they convert though..

For a couple of weeks I was getting callers that were completely silent, then they hung up a few seconds later. Eventually I asked my telco about malicious call tracing, and I found out something interesting: I was being called by a machine. When I answered, it checked to see if any consultants were available to spam me. In all cases there were none, so it just hung up.

That's even more fucking rude than a recorded message.

The sad part is that it's legal in Australia. It calls indiscriminately so even those with silent numbers will cop it. The only way to stop it is to have your number added to a 'remove' list.

I normally just hang up, too.

You deal with phone numbers, not cold calling (you have people call you) do you know anything about the legality of getting these calls?

I don't think it's legal... and I know it's not legal after dinnertime at night (pretty positive). I think it's illegal just like unsolicited faxes are.

I've got about ten calls so far that go something like this: "You've got a secret lover, call this number to find out who it is..." I just hung up most of the time until they kept calling almost everyday..then I called it back and it was those damn lavalife dating services... At least I got laid a couple times out of it...

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck lavalife.

They spam my hotmail all day long & I can't opt-out. I've never signed up for it, or requested it through hotmail (I've even made sure that it wasn't selected in hotmails "Spam me with:" newsletters).

I think it is disgusting....First off, haven't you ever had someone mis-spell your name from some sort of sign-up, whether it be a newspaper subscription or raffle.....the next thing you know you are getting all sorts of mail addressed to you with the mis-spells....and of course the telemarketing calls start pouring in. Your name is worth alot, people are always selling your information.

Also, when you get a recorded message, just think, this is more human jobs that are being taken away. Recently, I got a "service call" from a company I was doing business with. Thank you, a pre-recorded message....that really makes me feel special.

Recorded telemarketing calls are illegal in GA. Plus we have a "no call" list (which supposedly will be national soon) and if someone calls you and you're on the list, the state fines them and you can sue them.

We get that shit on all our direct dial lines in the office, which is like 100 lines.

About 6pm, they just start ringing... fucking dish america everyday.

We keep talking about suing but it just doesn't seem worth the effort -- $500 per call though after putting in a request for no more calls, someone should be made an example of.
