Suck it, Gas Guzzlers: Electric Ford Mustang Crossover Will Go Like Hell, Says Ford

Quote:

High performance in combination with good efficiency. That’s Ford’s EV formula.
Ford is dead serious about its electrification plans. The Blue Oval company wants to have a hybrid, PHEV, or all-electric version of its every model, and, in addition, it will launch a number of completely new nameplates with electric powertrains. One of these new members of the lineup will be a Mustang-inspired crossover which is scheduled to arrive on the market sometime next year.

And while Ford’s previous electrified models such as the Focus Electric, Fusion Energy, and C-Max PHEV were best known for their good fuel efficiency, the new EVs will be focused on performance and efficiency together. Emphasizing Ford’s new strategy, the automaker’s Executive Chairman Bill Ford said the Mustang-inspired electric crossover “is going to go like hell.”

This is not just a phrase. It’s a callback to a legendary speech of Henry Ford II who told his team the drivers need to “go like hell” when Ford was attempting to beat Ferrari at Le Mans back in the 1960s. The rest, as they say, is history and the famous phrase is now used to underline Ford’s ambitions to build highly efficient and performance-oriented electric vehicles.

Cool, we all surely look forward to more open face mines for rare earth metals, more coal produced electricity and 100x more environmentally toxic batteries being disposed of

LOL. Four door Mustang? And we wonder why today's generation are made up of pussys.

I know Holden down in Australia used to have some kind of a four door Mustang but.... No.

It's like a four door Corvette or Camaro. Shouldn't happen.

LOL! You sound like a misinformed old man stuck in the 50's. You'd better ask your nurse to give you another spoonful of applesauce and help you out of your recliner or you'll miss out.

It might be a gull wing door like the Model X's... but yes I agree it should be a 2 door. It should have a modern appearance with some retro highlights, but always 2 door.

Mark, I'm sorry but he's 100% correct. Electric cars are a scam. They don't help at all. The only viable solution is bio-fuels. hemp diesel for big trucks/buses, hemp ethanol for cars.

Also do you really want to drive 200 miles then wait a few hours for charging? LoL!

I charge my EV with a pretty good solar array/storage bank.
My newer panels were made in China and they do not care about heavy metal in their environment (for now) but they will come around to the idea soon enough.
But I'm sure you would not understand.

Been doing it for over 5 years with the EV and 20 years in general. Ford is late to the game.
My LiPo battery's have been recycled twice in 16 years.
Soon, I may be using a HHO storage unit with a Hydrogen Fuel cell for generation for all of it.
You really have been mislead. That just makes you one of the folks not taking advantage of what is out there. To bad for you. Not for me.

Tesla Model X burned on frozen Lake Champlain.

A Tesla Model X did not make it home Feb. 24, when it caught fire on an icy Lake Champlain.

An online user, GreenMtnM3, posted to a forum on Tesla Motors Club Tuesday morning:

"... we noticed a bright light on the ice on the surface of Shelburne Bay on Lake Champlain... We called 911 and my sons skied out to the scene to investigate. The fire had numerous small explosions, and in time, it was apparent that very little was left... Firefighters arrived about 30 minutes later and told my kids it was a Tesla, and that the occupants had thankfully exited the vehicle."

What happened to the Tesla

The Shelburne Fire Department could not determine a cause for the fire, according to Chief Jerry Ouimet, as everyone was "unable to get anywhere near it before it was totally burnt to the frame."

The owner of the Tesla thinks he may have hit a rock or piece of ice that damaged the vehicle, from Ouimet's understanding. The chief said the call came in at approximately 8:11 p.m. Sunday night from dispatch. He believed the owner was the initial person who called to report the car burning.

The fire department also called the department in Charlotte for assistance.

Another car was out there as well, though Ouimet is unsure who was operating that vehicle. The chief heard the owner drove on the lake to go ice fishing, but added it seemed like an uncommon time of night for the activity.

Ouimet said the ice in the area where the Tesla burned was nearly a foot thick but added that it was unlikely the car would've melted through the ice despite the fire.

Yes, we are aware of the burned out Tesla on Shelburne Bay. Yes, plans are being made to remove the vehicle. https://t.co/81gfFE2FHp

Getting the Tesla off the ice before the lake thaws

It seems the owner of the vehicle is planning to make arrangements for the car to be removed, from Ouimet's understanding. The chief said that the lake is under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, which does not deal with recoveries.

He said Vermont Fish and Wildlife were also notified of the incident.

The owner will have more issues if the car is left when the ice melts, Ouimet said, as it could be costly to recover it from the water.

"Finding a company who will do it first will be the biggest challenge for him," he said.

Reddit wonders about the Tesla fire

Users on Reddit, the social platform, shared the story on subreddits dedicated to Vermont and Burlington.

One said the car owner should pay a fine daily until the Tesla is moved off the lake. Another defended the car owner, explaining it could be difficult to find a person who wants to remove the vehicle.

"Maybe it's not quite time to get out the torches and pitchforks."

Another wondered about whether the car was still on the ice and questioned why taking an expensive vehicle onto Lake Champlain was an issue.

"The pickups and whatnot people take out there aren't cheap."

One redditor said they heard the owner "took it out on the ice for a joy ride. Spinning donuts like crazy. Not sure if they hit something or overheated the batteries, but the ice fishing excuse is a joke."

One simply wrote, "Sounds fishy."
