Ahhh the price of being a slave to Microsucks OS. Good thing your file in intact it could have been worse and you have had to reformat.

Yeah FUCK windows!

When I came home from my vacation last month my computer had commited suicide... after many ifs and buts we managed to update the bios and re-install Windows... BUT, re-installing Windows gave the administrator a new certificate ... something I never even thought about earlier...

Now this was all good until I notice that all images on my harddrive had been encrypted by my previous windows installation only letting the administrator with the PREVIOUS certificate view them.

They're still there, waiting for a miracle to happend.
I hate it, all pics of the hot Swedish chicks I had collected over the years ... I can see the filenames ... BUT I CAN'T VIEW THEM!

Thank you sir may I have another.

brand new install, who'd thunk it? i don't ever worry about reformatting. i keep _all_ my data on complete seperate drives, and keep the main hard drive strictly for the OS. that way if it goes down or i reinstall, all i do is unplug them, reinstall, plug them back in. makes it easier.

i'm really looking into getting a mac for work. still doing research on them and all though, since i know very little about the mac

i would like to switch my dependencies from microsoft, but it's rather cost-prohibitive as well. it would be really nice to be able to plop down on a beach somewhere and crank out a web design with a 17" monitor though.

although, since there are all the mac pros out there, convince me to switch. why is it so much better? ;)

for future reference, you can backup your encryption key in windows so you can decrypt those files on another machine later.

however, you really should delete those files, they're wasting space. i believe windows uses 3DES for that. there is no saving it, it's gone. the amount of computer power and time required to break that is... well... not worth it. for all practical purposes, it is impossible.

You don't notice anything on my posts that might give you a hint as to where to get good mac info? Look around a little and you'll figure it out.

Wake up happy every day? Yeah?

Although I am a (normally) happy Mac user running OS X, I really hate that spinning beachball coming up all the time. Other than that, I am happy.

All you said is probably right but these are serveral thousand pics of my friends and family during the past 6 years or so, I have a hard time just removing it. Keep hoping some solution is gonna pop-up...
