i was gonna buy a 17 inch, but i'm traveling around so much these days... i'm thinking the 12 inch would be a nice addition to the family.

My wife owns one and one of our Netbilling techs own 2 of them. Great machines and verey portable.

I don't know anyone that owns one personally. I've just seen it at the store and played around with it and held it up. nice size actually.

I have heard murmers that the construction on the 12" isn't great. Personally, I'd rather have an iBook and/or a 17"...

i've heard the first batch may have had some problems. at first i wanted to get a 17 inch - but i just bought a brand new 1 ghz 15 with superdrive before they were announced. i'm glad now, cause i want something smaller for travelling.

two of my employees have current generation ibooks. way too slow for editing digital video. hd's too small as well.

Yeah, I suppose the longer you wait, the more manufacturing issues will be resolved.

As for the spare 15"... I wouldn't be offended by a used birthday present. ;) Seriously, though, I guess that does kinda make the 17" redundant.

If you want power in both your laptops (big and small), then yeah, the 12" should be nice. I guess I assumed that with a desktop and a big laptop, the small one would be more for convenience.

yeah, the only thing i use a desktop for anymore is mass video encoding.

I couldn't find a good spot in the store out of camera view to play with anything else. However I did manage to rub up against the counter while paying for my can of compressed air on the way out.
