people need to do more REAL gallery contests like CFF and the Hun Listing.

100 buck contests and the like are cool i guess, but theres no real incentive.

The higher you make the price, the better work people will deliver. Sounds simple, but I still see too many $50 dollar contests here.

I don't think a gallery contest should go much higher than that.. so maybe it's time for members area template page contest or avs tour page contest, etc..

half page ads, banners, full page ads, logos..

Btw design contest are cool and with 1 contest per day, i could quit my day job and focus on contest to pay my bill

I was replying to Fletch though.
Many gallery designers are only charging $25 or $35 on average. A contest gets them $100 for a design, and even as much as $50 for 5 to 10 runner-ups. It doesn't seem like that much of a waste of time to me, if all you have to do is be one of the top 10 or so chosen and you make more than you already charge for the gallery anyway. Am I missing something that makes it not worthwhile ?

Some designers are already booked. They're the ones who already charge $50 for a gallery. Why would they enter a contest in the hopes of making $50 when they already have people paying them $50 for a gallery?

Their time is better spent making $50 instead of hoping for $50.

I didn't say I wanted anything. I said 100$ contests are okay, but there isnt much of an incentive.

I'll wait for CFF to throw a contest.

Why? Because im still making money on the rebills from their first contest! And I made waaaaaay more than 100 bucks with the Hun listing.

Aside from this, most of my clients order MORE THAN 5 galleries at a time, some 20 or more galleries, so to stop what Im doing for 50 bucks isnt worth it.

That was just a number.

Couldn't any retard steal any gallery anyway ?

I can see the incentive doesn't appear that great for a single gallery. Some of these contests have allowed multiple entries too though. So if you get 5 galleries in and they win.. that's at least $250 if they're paying $50 and potentially $300 if you get the winning entry too. So you sold 5 galleries in that example.

I am thinking of sponsoring another one so thats why I'm asking all the questions. I want to make sure the incentive is good enough for those who do participate, while at the same time I get some nice galleries out of the deal too.

That's why you should always watermark your entries in a contest or display them as a solid image.

I've seen some inexperienced contestants here on GFY that display the full HTML of the gallery. No no.

Member-area template, probably. That'll be interesting to see developed, since these are one of the neglected and important parts of a paysite that's designed well.
