House of Cards on netflix

Anyone else watching this? I just finished the 1st episode and it seems like it's going to be a pretty good series. I think they picked the right guy (Kevin Spacey) for the lead role because he fits it pretty damn well and is able to pull off a decent elitist southern accent.

I'm kinda hoping this works out well for Netflix as it would be nice to have some competition to HBO & Showtime for decent mini series.

Watched the first episode and loved it. Netflix has a lot of money involved in this show and they got some great people to be involved with it.

I love Spacey when he is being evil and he is perfect here. I can't wait to watch the rest.

I am on netflix now, so they released all of the episodes at once?

Yea they dumped the whole 1st season at once. I just finished the 2nd episode the acting is very good and the story-line seems to be developing rather well. Seems like a very well done production, so it's not like some cheap cable TV mini series, I'd say it's more along the lines of an HBO or Showtime style production.

Just finished whole thing, was ok, not nearly as good as the trailer. Can't believe I watched 13 hours of it in 2 days lol, good thing I have no life anymore or anything to do.

Surprised they put up all the episodes at once though, that's is really odd. Just wished more interesting stuff happened, it always seemed like it was coming, and by the way the trailer made it look, I was expecting more, which is why I kept just watching and watching. Really, not much happens. It was ok though, worth watching.

the Zoe Barnes character looks just like Caprice.

http://littlecaprice.com/

And yeah its a pretty good show. I like that netflix released all the episodes at once instead of stretching it out.

This isn't the first series that Netflix put out like this.

Lillehammer was great.

Yea, she's hot, but she's the only one that really seems out of place so far in her role.. I don't really get the right feel out of her. She kinda seems a bit too flaky but then serious at the same time.

Pretty good - definitely feels like an HBO or Showtime series, and that is pretty much who they're competing against. They've done well with it.

Loved the original. I am three episodes into this version and it stands up so far. Knowing the original, I can see where that plot has been blended in and it is being done in a natural feeling way.

I have a feeling the delivery method of this show could be a game changer. In particular, the deliver of all the episodes at once. Traditional tv stations might want to worry. It could be to Netflix with Mad Men was to AMC or what the Sopranos was to HBO.

I agree Lilyhammer was awesome, a really great watch. I liked the first season of the British version of House of Cards, but the second one was too tedious to watch in its entirety. I think I'd be bored watching a remake, where I already know what is going to happen. But Lilyhammer was great. I want a new season of Lilyhammer.

Fucking PC all the way, random example - 80% of US population are white, yet out of the "6 smartest minds in education" only 2 are white. Episode 2. Thats just a random example. Who funds all that PC in movies/tv shows etc?

To me that is part of what makes the show cool. I am only on the 3rd episode, but she really does come off as someone who was a little fish in the big pond who suddenly was in the right place at the right time and now has some serious ambition because of it.

Yes and dropped every episode of the season at once rather than in weekly installments. It has potential to being a game changer move.

In LA they promoed the show hard too. Giant ads on the side of buildings. I heard of it in the first place because of a huge Kevin Spacey looking down on the Hollywood Farmer's Market.

I watched the first episode of Lilyhammer but it didn't grab me for some reason, almost like the acting was a bit cartoonish. I'm gonna have to give it another shot...

I watched about half of the episodes of Lilyhammer and couldn't get into it either. It was kind of like if the Sopranos was remade as a made-for-TV movie.

I just finished it. There is an ending but it is also setting up for a next season.

Ugh..there needs to be a thread where spoilers are okay. Though, with the way they are delivering it, it will make avoiding spoiling hard when people are all on different episodes.

The British version of House of Cards was pretty much a trilogy of mini series. So, three 'seasons' of four episodes each. They did a really good job of fleshing the first US season out without making it feel weak. It also introduced the phrase "You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment." into the British language.

The parallels they drew from aspects of modern American culture to the recently post-Thatcher UK were also really well done. In particular the Philadelphia ship yard in place of the coal mines.

I hope they go the British way of short, sweet and quality rather than drag it on season after season but so far, so good.

The British version is on Netflix instant too, btw.

I dont know. It says filming will begin this spring. But the show was originally signed for 2 seasons. So they will be a 2nd season for sure. Looks like if they start shooting in spring. maybe around the same time next year. maybe late fall into winter.

The original bbc series starring Ian Richardson was awesome. I still re-watch it every now and then.

Wonder how the Emmys handle this going forward. I'm not sure if anybody else remembers way back at the start of cable when they had to have their own awards show. I think it was called the ACE Awards. Then eventually the Emmys had to welcome them into the nomination fold. Wonder if this will be the start of what pushes internet broadcasting into the mix.

The bad news of it being out all at once, it doesn't have weeks to gain new viewers etc. I wonder how its numbers are now?
