the winner's site: i finished it. link inside

http://dreamache.com/stopthathacker

there it is basically. its not 100% complete just yet, few kinks to work out within the flash and such. i started on it on the 25th, and got it done tonight. its "different" amongst normal design standards but i had fun doing it.

and i believe i stuck to my word, because it is pretty much my best design.

thanks to danielle for allowing me to go all out on it.

Sweet LOOKING design.

It's not very accessable at my resolution though (LCD, 1400x1050). I'm sure most of the target customers for this product/service will be at 1024x768 and up.

The stuff in the box is really hard to read.. maybe the faq's questions should be cyber green (mono green) color or something.. maybe not I'm not a designer.

But from a potential clients point of view... I don't like that little scroller box. I hate scroller boxes for vital information.. I want to use the browsers scroller

gobigtime: well, i did design it for 800x600. but i decided to do some horizontal design'ish stuff that'd continue on. i get bored of the conventional "there must be no scrollbars!" stuff. and as for the inflash scrolling, thats the only way you can basically do it if the interface is in flash. actually tho i am planning on making it just like a normal scroll bar from which you can drag down and such, couldn't find a good one tho. thanks for the comments.

... text is too small for me, also I hate those flash scroll things - at the very least download a slicker one from flashkit or whatever, no point in coding your own when some flash nonce has spent hours building the perfect one - really simple to replace, just drop it in.

Loads nice and fast though, and gets across it's aims, I hope your client is pleased.

After looking at the current www.stopthathacker.com, I bet the guy would have more sales from that site than the new one -- providing that he updates that "Apache 1.3.9 recommended" bit.

The Dreamache design kicks ass looks wise.. it reminds me alot of #design designs.. true graphic artists and flash designers... with kickass LOOKING sites, but the paying public has no time to figure out wtf is going on with techie GUI's.. so you better get them to where they want to go and quick or you'll lose them.

But If you could somehow combine the sites that would be great.. the LOOK and FEEL of the new site, with the easy navigation and information retrieval. I mean now that you have the basic "feel" of the site thought up anyway.. should be pretty easy, another day or two

Or, maybe the new design will make the site owner feel more proud about his/her service (with the new design) and run around promoting it more... in the end equalling more sales (on more traffic)

just my

well see i still have to work on the content cause its pretty plain, especially with the "purchase" link. personally, perhaps its just because i'm a designer, if i see a crappy site that provides a service, i tend to stay away.. but if its nicely designed, it means they've have some money so i'm a bit more trusting. but in the end i'm confident it'll be able to produce more sales.

Right.. I can see that in the design. It screams of "I'm a designer damnit! Enjoy my DESIGN!! Enjoy my unique creation!!" (and its cool, the colors, the concept nice nice) .. when designing mainstream sites that SELL STUFF, products or services (or adult especially for that matter) they need to be easy to navigate.. because you don't want your surfer to get bored or frustrated on your site & run off.

DESIGNERS that haven't dealt much with the adult market (where lots of real world design & marketing lessons are learned the hard way) usually have sites like this to portray their own works.. they are usually a major turn off to me...but hey what do I know.

Anyway please don't take any of this criticism the wrong way, or in the wrong tone.. I'm hoping to be of help to you and your client here, not just to be a smartass

Great design, but... its WAAAAAY techie for this industry... Can tell you're meant for true tech/mainstream development...

Not saying ya can't do this industry, just sayin it shows you've got better skills than what most of us need.

Keeping that in mind, I'll have to look ya up soon, when I wanna do something with my new company's site. ;)

yeah i understand. the reason i did this was cause i wanted to just really incorperate a ton of design'ish stuff, perhaps stopthathacker wasn't perfect for it, or i might have went too overboard, but i did it for free. they dont have to use it if they don't want to, but i accomplished what i wanted to accomplish.

and yeah #design, i've known a few of them, real good designers.

I don't think flash heavy non-porn commercial sites sell as well as bog standard html ones... Search engines can't pick up their text, loads of users click away cos they take too long to load on shitty modems and they can be hard to follow/read, as is the case here...

Good looking shit, well done bro, but she will probably sell better with what she has.

cheekycherry: true. perhaps i could just bust out a mainstream design for them and offer up on a splash page either to enter flash or html. this is by far the most graphical that i've done, my other stuff is located here: www.dreamache.com/links

Right.. its a cool design, but for someone thats trying to crank out sales to end users it's not a very friendly cash harvester.

The other site, while its simple & plain is easy to navigate & that's why I think the other site with a very very basic facelift would outperform your "design" design sales wise... in a beauty contest yours would win hands down.

In the early adult years adult webmasters would argue about how important good looking designs were with conversions. The bottom line was it didn't matter. The sites that converted were the ones that were the easiest to navigate (or hardest if your sneaky, but thats another thread)

But unless the problem with your client is they are ashamed of promoting their existing site, and your new "design" design will get them off their butts to update & promote it... I don't think your site will be helping their sales much.

But really.. if you take that look and feel, and use their old navigation, or something similar.. woo you'll be golden

well, its basically just a show off site in the graphical sense. so yes, i can see how it can seem confusing with a crazy design for a mainstream'ish site

the reason i started it, was just to show off the art skills, hehe.

Remember this much,

If you develop in Flash, and your development doesn't use any of the advanced scripting that Flash 5 or MX uses, you can always export the movie out as Flash 4 and hit a target audience of almost 97% of the internet surfers today

Flash 5, I think you are hitting almost 75%, as for Flash MX, I think the numbers are still low, and I will get them for anyone who wants me to get them.

it's nice but like most people have commented on, it's more about showing off graphic skills than producing a site that will maximise sales for the client.

And it's not a porn vs mainstream thing either, that style of site design performs poorly in mainstream too. Go look at the top mainstream sites and tell me what you see, simplicity.

It's easy to get seduced by Flashy edgy hip designs, you gotta have one for your own but they don't work nearly as well as simple HTML sites with some quick loading graphics to spice it up.

Flash 'bricks' are ok, they can give a site some pizzaz, but that's their only purpose.

Nice work though Dreammache. A bit derivative but i guess that's the nature of all design trends.

mutt: thats all true. but i don't want everyone thinking all my design is like this, LOL. this was basically a site where i wanted to go all out on w/ the graphics, and i got a bit carried away cause the shit is so fun to design, this was the only site i've ever done like this, my mainstream work is strong, and my adult work is pretty good. this was just one of those things ya put to spice up your portfolio a bit.

I like it.
Remember that you can create those movies to expand with the screen resolution, that will take care of those of us that run over 8x6 I don't know the action script off hand but its in one of my computers.

I think you have a type-o on the first page

"Let's cut to the chance" I think you mean Let's cut to the chase??

Once you click on one of the monitors you can't get back to the first set of text.

That whole right side seems useless. It looks cool but it does nothing.

If you run a small window for text, put a magnifier on it so people can read it. Or open up that area so the info screen is bigger. 75% of your page is used up by cool graphics, thats great if the information on your product is only 25% important.

Minced meat navigation is hard enough to follow,, try to keep your nav words a different color than any other on your page. I clicked on every green word thinking it might be a link.

This site would rock in a European Market.

Just my thoughts.

well, in the design standard point of view, i hate large text. for the sake of the design perspective i usually keep text small as small as possible cause i think large text just makes it look crappier in most cases. but for the sake of efficiency, obviously its better to have more accessable and readable text, but as i've pointed out several times, i just wanted to design a site from my perspective (the designers), rather than restricting my skill (as most designers must do w/ clients). the really really really small unreadable text is part of a design trend and it helps to spice up the design, however its becomming old but i figured i could get away with it in this design. its just for the visual aspect.

I think that is excellent for what it is. If I were looking for some high tech way to stop hackers, I would be way more inclined to trust your abilities with your site looking high end like that rather than some basic standard and plain html site.

Good job!

When I click on the FAQ, but it is not scrolling and I can't read all the answers. Can't read past "No!, stop that hacker is installed at the" and it cuts off.

Maybe I don't have the latest flash installed?

I would have to agree with the majority about the flash vs reg html/dhtml sites. Flash is great for interactivity, but most people are looking for content and not wow factor. We do alot of mainstream work, and when they bring up flash type sites we read the riot act to them about speed, SE ranking and all the other crap.

But very cool design and graphics. YOu need to find Sci-Fi type clients, they expect that stuff.

You just confired my point. Pretty pictures are only a fraction of the formula. Watch the site logs once it is launched. You'll find that a double digit percentage of users will hit the useless "splash" page and leave. Users want a clean design and conent, not some dark, techno site with a few lines of content in 1 pt. font.

lol well if you would have read through my posts in this thread i already stated before i did this design solely because i wanted to do something different, and crazy... and might as well do it for someone. so i chose stopthathacker, perhaps its too overboard for the site, but my main intention was to gather motivation by posting a thread, which would ensure me to get somethin kickass done for my portfolio. i'm gonna be making a nice clean / professional / easy to navigate / however graphically appealing html site for it now. thx for pissing me off cause now im gonna go ahead and do the html site

theres a preview of the html version i just made. pretty rough though, but i imagine this is what most of you people are referring to when it comes to a "nice clean easy to navigate site"
