French MEP suggests EU tax on SMS and emails WTF ??

The French Eurocommisionar Alain Lamassoure has proposed taxes on SMS and e-mail. An SMS could go up in price by at least one and a half cents and for e-mail he thinks a eurocent per 1000 e-mails. "That price is nearly nothing, but billions of e-mails are send every day, it could make a great source of income."

A tax like this is according to mister Lamassoure a logical consequence to the value of international communication: "The economical value of globalisation is mostly information traffic, why not tax it?"

What would happen with internal messages is a case for the local government, but a message which needs to cross a border is a message that can be charged extra, the Frenchman says.

The plans are not really thought of as possible to become real. SMS is already taxed, while the paid e-mails that Yahoo and AOL had a while ago where so much criticized that they put it to rest.

Ironically, Lamassoure compared his plans to the so called 'Tobintax', a 70's plan for tax on currency exchange. That tax law is redundant now the EU has their unity current, the Euro.

Well why not soon we need to pay taxes to take a fucking shit to i guess
