Agreed, but you were talking about carpet bombing. In order to carpet bomb you have to use your huge bomber fleets that constantly need to be re-loaded with 500-5000lb bombs. You can't exactly bring over 1,000,000 tons of bombs on an aircraft carrier, nor can you land a bomber on one.
But yes percision bombing & cruise missle attacks can be launched from a sea based platform, & from long range bombers.
