You speak it, yes - but you cannot refer to The United States of America by using the word
"America" in any written context.
This board uses text, not speech if I am not mistaken. I am surprised that a writer like yourself does not find it important to be clear at all times for different types of readers from several nations and cultures about what you are referring to.
---------------
Hmmmmm ... THESE writers are speaking of the country, not the two continents...
"America makes prodigious mistakes" - ee cummings.
"America is hard to see.
Less partial witnesses than he
In book on book have testified
They could not see it from outside...." - Robert Frost
"America, I've given you all and now I'm nothing." - Allen Ginsberg
"America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity." - James Madison
"America is the most grandiose experiment the world has seen, but, I am afraid, it is not going to be a success." - Sigmund Freud
"America is a vast conspiracy to make you happy." - John Updike
Should I go on?
