The fact that the definition of America in dictionaries includes the United States of America is because so many people call the USA America. Dictionaries will obviously put that in so that people will understand what people mean by America in conversation.

It doesn't changes my point. Hell, if the whole world started calling a chair a poopoobumbumthingy for years, it'd be put into a dictionary as well. English has been warped over the years to accommodate the stupidity of people speaking it incorrectly.

America does not mean the USA, period. Everyone will keep using America in place of the USA (including me) but the fact still remains that it is not.
