Mmm.. The US is basically the largest arms trader in the world and sells more arms internationally than all other countries combined and will sell arms to "anyone" as long as there is a dollar to be gained.
Prior to the invasion of Iraq there was an international arms fair in Tehran and of course the US was displaying weaponary and not being left out in the cold despite "we don't like Iran".
It also may be relevant that arms and wheat remain the only who areas where the US has a trade surplus - they rest are all deficits.
