Losing this functionality, when used for legitimate purposes, would suck.
Like the example of the hammer: just because someone CAN bludgeon you to death with a hammer, should we ban hammers?
I say go after the guys who are stealing. Vox is on the right track there -- he's going after a guy who has outright stolen the content from his small site, removed all references to the original small site, and then changed the links from the small site and used them on the other blog. I am not sure about the strategy of spending the money and time on a cease and desist to a variety of people, before just asking the guy to remove it, but to each his own -- I don't personally have the time for that, but if you're a small time webmaster, you should definitely do all you can to protect yourself.
