Killing someone for having a sickness is barbarious. In a way, the guy is a victim as well, of a system that didn't protect him or the world from his insanity.
And no, this is not "being soft" or being a "bleeding heart liberal". Paranoid schizophrenia, unlike having an unhappy childhood, is an actual disease. It actually alters a persons perception of the world, including severe auditory and visual hallucinations. Ever watched a horror movie? Paranoid schizophrenics may actually experience it, including, for example, such things as experiencing being attacked by monsters. For them, that seems as real as "real" experiences seem to normal people.
