Few things.. book a hotel for 1 night so you have a place to go on the first day, I stayed at the hotel national which is one of the more interesting hotels I've stayed at.
After that, look around for some live in accommodation, if you are looking to get laid then you can forget about staying at a hotel. NO hotel will let you bring local girls back to your room, no matter how hard you try, trust me
Gun? I felt a lot safer in Cuba than I did in the states. Besides certain exports such as cigars, there is really no other foreign revenue besides Tourism, so they love they're tourists. There always a policeman/solider around the corner, and there are huge penalties for stealing/attacking tourists.
Anyway, it?s a real cultural exciting place to visit, and if you are thinking about going then I suggest you do it soon. There's a lot of tension building against communism and Castro, so I recommend you get there before it all changes and the venture capitalists get their hands on it
