Only you know what's real and what isn't. If this is a first time thing, then chalk it up to experience and move on. I always have to tell myself (like daily) that my definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I hope things work out OK for you, don't beat yourself up too bad over this.
