Engine and Transmission
It is important that the engine converts the energy from the petrol as efficiently as possible into energy to drive the vehicle forwards. To this end the engine has been designed and built virtually from scratch, very few components have been taken from existing engines.
The engine has a 34 cc single cylinder and it operates with a normal 4-stroke cycle. It uses standard unleaded petrol supplied by Shell. It has 2 spark plugs, variable inlet valve timing and fuel injection.
The ignition and fuel injection are controlled by an Engine Management system provided by GEMS (General Engine Management Systems Ltd) . This is able to keep the engine working most efficiently.
The drive from the engine is taken via a centrifugal clutch and chain drive system to the rear wheel.
