If you were to be in Santo Domingo which is the capitol it's a different story you got alot of scum that hangs out there, personally I think that's the part of the country that gives it a bad name.

I'm from Santiago De Los Caballeros it's toward's the northern shore you have more of the light skinned people up that way. As far as checking out the real D.R. I would Recommend to either get to know one of the hotel personel there on a good baisis and have him tour you around after work or if you really want I have a cousin who is my personal driver down there.
