Certainly no-one is yet forcing anyone to do anything. But if the xxx TLD is created, it can only be a matter of time before there are attempts to change that. There will always be people trying to score political brownie points attacking (online) porn and to the public at large, if we have our own TLD, what could seem more reasonable than that be the only TLD adult sites should use?

The ACLU and others might get energized over issues of censorship in the face of such moves, but unless we are absolutely certain they will win every time, anyone who has successfully branded his sites, to ensure the continuity of his business, really has no choice but to buy the xxx versions of his domains. Which means paying (reportedly) $60 per year per domain for domains which will be virtually worthless unless and until we are eventually segregated.
