For the second time in less than a month, a close friend has died. His name was John Nielson, age 37. I?ve known the guy for 15 years?he was pretty much ?the forth testicle? in
Dick Delicious. The guy co-produced, engineered, and mixed every Dick Delicious album. He also mixed Smashing Pumpkins, Driving and Crying, Corrosion of Conformity, and Matchbox 20.
Outside of recording we remained good friends because of our mutual interests in Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica.
Apparently, John just died in his sleep from natural causes at his home this week. Unlike a lot of people that die young (outside of an occasional beer or bong hit) John didn?t party. The only thing he cared about was recording good sounding music. That was what he lived for.
All of this has me taking a hard look at my life? Maybe it?s time to chill on all of the drugs, drinking, and philandering. If I died tomorrow, would it really surprise anyone?
Probably not.
This one certainly shocked me.
