On encoding from the vob file; it would mean you avoid any quality loss on the way. Generally though, like someone said, I would not use divx/xvid (f.ex) for my clients. Go with any mpeg or wmv.

I have both also. AVS is nice but Videocharge gives me better quality for MPEG, WMV, MOV and DIVX. AVS is good for the rest.
