Wow, welcome to the last year's news column. Google has been rumored to be potentially in the OS & PC market, looking for product to ship to a major retailer (like, say, WalMart) as an internet appliance. Literally open the box and away you go.
I suspect it would be a pretty difficult for them to do mostly because when people buy PCs, they have other plans besides just the net. Games, other software, etc. The frustration of not being able to run this or that is one of the things that has kept Apple from being a happy hippy system for the last 15 years (they are finally changing). Google would have to roll a pretty big rock up a pretty big hill in a market they are not part of. Tough going.
However, they do have a ton of cash, big positive cash flow, and the ability to encourge third parties to join the game. If it happens, it would have to happen pretty soon to make it to christmas.
Maybe a windows dual boot?
