Lol, since when is Kobe a defensive gem? According to the season defensive stats index ( opposing players field goal%), Kobe is the 6th worst at his repsective position while Nash is 8th best at his. Kobe could be a decent defender if he would just put forth the effort, obviously the athletic ability is there. Nash also shot 51% on the year, while Kobe was down at 45%. In fact Kobe has never shot over 47% in any year and is a career 43% in the playoffs. Again, I have no problem saying that Nash probably shouldn't have been the MVP and what Kobe did was spectacular this year, but if you are going to compare them don't make Kobe out to be something he isn't.
