Stuart, My niece went when she was 6 months, 1.5 years and 2.5 years. It does take extra prep and some awareness, but it can be a magical place for children. They even have "kid friendly" vilages where tons of families camp (usually with RVs).
I'm sure Aeon will rent you an RV, since its a pretty harsh environment (windstorms/dust/heaty) to expose a kid and he seems pretty good about protecting children....even if he's quick to execute adult humans.
