Write a letter of complaint to their home office. Don't use profanity or use insults as they'll just dismiss your letter and tos it in the garbage. Give them the specific detail: time you ate, your problem, the manager on duty, the waitress, etc. The more detailed the better. Explain that you had witnesses who saw the napkin too. Inform them that you are a long time costumer and you will not be eating in their establishments and will urge others to do likewise. Don't get nasty, but be firm.
Also explain that you are going to call your local health department about the incident. I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the states any complaints to the health inspector are taken very seriously. I worked in the restaurant business for several years and can tell you, it can get nasty with health department...and it should. They are serving people and those people deserve to eat without fear of foreignm objects in their food or improperly handled food causing them to be sick.
You actually should inform thehealth department too (or the Candadian equivilant). Who's to say this hasn't been a problem before? If this cook was eating on the line, he could have cross contaminated food and gotten others sick.
Sorry to get off on a rant, but having worked in the industry and had to write several safety and sanitation manuals, so it's a very touchy subject for me....
anyways, just write the corporate office a well written letter and you'd be amazed at the response this can prompt. Try not to sound like you're extorting them, but that you feel they could at least comp the costs of your meal.
