I think the first thing I do is ask myself if they're right. If they are, I own it. Otherwise, the other 99% of the time when I am right and they are wrong it's usually pointless to argue beyond telling them that they're wrong. I find that is as pointless as getting into a religous or political argument with a zealot - they just don't listen, can't reason and don't have any humility.
