Affiliates what do you want, more money or more tools?

Here's a thought I had while driving to work. Yes I do think sometimes.

What would you prefer, a sponsor who does everything he possibly can for you and pays 60% or one who does little and pays 70%?

The % may change due to differing programs, conversion will stay the same as it's the same program.

What I'm saying is, nothing is for free in this world. The tools cost money, money that comes from the sign ups the affiliates send. So would you prefer little support, maybe just the content and a bigger slice or all the tools and pay for them with a smaller slice?

I think 10% would cover it and attract the better affiliates. Think of the cost, hosting, banners, galleries, STAFF, etc. Then think "I can do this for myself, do it different and earn more money or I can take all the tools and save time to drive traffic. Which is best for YOU?.

I put this elsewhere, will be interesting also to see the different votes on the different boards.

I know some of the tools are easy, like content. But some cost money and it has to come from some where.

Would also be interesting to see how much traffic comes from the guys who vote either way.

60% seems the going rate for recurring programs, bumping upto 70% won't get you that many more affilates but making all the good tools for your affilates and cutting all the content for them and making there live easy and giving them free hosting. That is what increases your sales and affialtes.

A program can get new sites, upgrade tour pages, changes join pages, renew or build their members area this sure will infect the conversions.

Other then that, when I'm promoting a program I would like to see some good support and promo tools no matter what their payout is. If I have a question I would like to have a answer or at least a way to reach them

So far all my affiliates are pretty well looking after themselves. But speaking to some program owners I hear they spend a lot of time or have staff answering queries.

We are taking on a new guy to help affiliates and this prompted me to think this one out.

We can afford it, but it's tough for new sponsors to start and cope.

not sure what "tools" you are refering to, but if you spread the cost of tools over 100s of affiliates and then over many signups, the cost of implementing "tools" should be minimal... I'm not sure what kind of tools you currently offer, but if you don't offer good selection of banners and hosted galleries, you are probably missing out on a lot of potential affiliate traffic...

Well they can look for themselves if you provide them with enough tools, FHGs and programs to choose from. Yet as you get more or frequently new ones they may have some special requests which you really need some sort of support team and or email for to answer. I agree with you it can be pricey especially for the newer guys out there but yet it's needed with the nowadays standards within a affiliate program.

The most expensive is the hosting of the galleries, we seem to burn a lot of BW with them. But getting down the prices of BW and even with the new hardware we install next week we can afford it. Plus is brings down the cost for the other side of the business.

The next cost is staff and then design, both affordable and as we grow it will need more investment.

I just started this thread to see what people thought.

I think one of the biggest cost would be promotion to find new affiliates, but no way you can do without that.

Reak, at the moment most people will find me around, as we grow we will take on people in different time zones to get more cover.

Alot of them might be inviting those time consuming affiliate requests by never denying any request no matter how ridiculous...

As for your question, I do have a use for FHG's and sometimes downloadable content, so if you're referring to tools other than that I'd rather just have the extra payout.
