There's minor differences in speed here and there, mostly due to programs using the dual core properly (if the cpu has it). It's not so much of a speed boost, as it is a lack of lag when a program like premier or dvd burning happens. It'll use one core while the other core is available for normal computer use.
But yes, I do agree on the driver issue. Most hardware/software released within the past year has 64 bit drivers available... but older stuff is pretty much unusable.
So far, the only thing I've not been able to get working is my old webcam. But that's hardly an issue since I almost never use it... and I could replace it with a newer one for like, $100.
