I'm reminded of an ethical dilemma we were given in a philosophy class that went something like this: "The Earth is visited by vastly superior beings, who actually control the fate of man and the Cosmos. They make this offer: 'We will give all human beings immortality if you will give us one 12 year old girl (who will also be immortal) to torture agonizingly for eternity.' Should the human race accept these terms?"
