I was thinking about the "odd" phone call from son to mother. The first thing is that this call was never released to the public so the information was dictated to someone from a person who did hear it, then dictated again and again untill it got to use through this video.
There is no way to tell how much [SIC] was used by individuals in giving this info. Anything that was not clearly audible or missed by someone getting the info would have had a best fill in which could explain a lot.
But let's take it literally. Let's say the guy wanted to make sure that he was identified completely, he calls his mother and hoping there was a recording he gives his full name so there is no mistake that it was he who made the call. Perhaps also he said something along the lines of we will be ok or we are going to make it in which case the following question "you believe me" was to get her to confirm not only to herself but also to him (having heard her say it to him) that they would indeed make it.
I believe there is a lot more involved in this than any of us will ever know and more to it than we are being told, but I do not believe everything anyone says on this subject, especially when using certain ploys to get emotional response to overpower logic and the bending of partial truths to make the other side look like a complete lie.
