my dad told me as a kid that nobody has more than a few true friends - and he was right. the people most people refer to as amongst their friends are just people sitting near them on the bus of life - people who are around you because of work, a shared interest, social/marital status - those pass and so do 99% of those 'friends'. Think back to college if you went to college - and all the friends you had - how many are you still in touch with? High school the same thing. First job, second job, etc -
Most lasting friendships are made when you are younger - when you have the luxury of time to bond and maintain a friendship - as you get older people have too many other things going on to worry about and tend to to forge and maintain true friendships.
