As far as it being a simple fix, I agree that Rewrite is not the world's simplest module, but hotlinking is a problem that gets addressed over and over here. He can definitely play games to work around work arounds if he's stubborn.

I think polite might be the best way to handle this.

edit: look up mit's original dns record. same name. i'd definitely go with politeness, as this guy doesn't necessarily have a boss.
