Italian charged with eluding police

NORTH BRUNSWICK: A speedster in a Lamborghini who treated Route 1 like a raceway was nabbed at an Edison Hess station yesterday, police said.

Gianluca Siciliano, 38, of Turin, Italy, blew by a North Brunswick police officer at 85 mph at 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

The officer tried to follow. But when the patrol car, lights swirling, reached 100 mph, Siciliano pressed on the gas to create some distance, police said.

The officer stopped the chase, feeling it was a futile effort, police said.

But about five minutes later, Siciliano stopped at the Hess gas station at the corner of Amboy and Woodbridge avenues, and Edison police spotted his gray and white car, authorities said.

Siciliano was arrested and charged with eluding police. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, authorities said.
