I have owned a few over the years...
The latest was a strip bar in Brisbane for about 5 minutes (almost literally) last year which was a total cluster fuck - bad partners, bad business ... someone was gonna sleep with fishes if I didn't walk away. I did, luckily for the other fucktwad. Lost like $10k and that was a cheap lesson.
Last year I part-owned a bar In Angeles City in the Philippines for 15 mins (still almost literally). Sounded like a fucking brilliant idea at the time until the reality of the corruption and bullshit set in. % weeks almost to the day after buying in I sold out at break even.
My FIRST venture was a seedy nightclub in 1994. I owned that for about 20 minutes (still no exaggeration). Seriously, paid $250k for it, 9 weeks later, after a clean up and previous crowd clean out and replacement exercise (total cost about $50k), I sold for $620k and change. Still one of my best business efforts IMHO.
Owning/running a club is overrated and a TOTAL pain in the ass.
My suggestion ?
Make shitloads of money, buy a club, and pay other peeps well to run it for you. Be prepared for it to cost you money, but don't care and treat it like your personal toy.
That is the shit.
