I bought one only because it was small and I needed something quick from best buy to put in a racecar with decent quality so we could watch the playback of the race to improve driver skills. It wasnt a bad little camera and basically point and shoot. When purchasing a new camera I like to try to borrow one or rent for a few days with indoor/outdoor shots under varied lighting. Then digitize the demo tapes into your editor and see what you got work with. What the picture quality is, how easy it is to edit, handles compositing and ultimatley looks after compression. Either way good luck!
You can allways save up for HDCAM or a Varicam
