When it comes to live content conversion factors multiply. People are so used to the membership/monthly recurring method that they forget all about the content.
Live video chat and webcam traffic converts generally a LOT slower than the kind that hits video and pic download/streaming sites.
The main reason is that the content is live - you can't download it and watch it later. There's all kinds of factors involved below that - the guy has to have the time, the girl has to be online, his card has to be clear, he has to trust the site, etc....
Any other kind of site, the surfer could join, download, and watch any time - he knows he's got the stuff.
But here your first timer has to go through all the usual rigamarole of trusting the site, liking the content, etc, and then he has to get something for a buy - and with live when the guy buys he has to be able to chat with the big-booby chick or whatever
now.
We have to wait for the moment. Volume of traffic can help, but quality of traffic is more important here.
Like many live video chat affiliates, you backed out too soon - but as you saw your traffic, even in low volumes, started paying off.
Cams has an excellent faq or affiliate info page somewhere that describes this relationship between site and affiliate that you should read. I mean, Lars is competition for us, but I think we have a lot to learn from each other from our years of experience, and we could both benefit if this understanding of the conversion model could reach more affiliates.
Live video chat converts - and the Cams advantage is that they have a join as well as a pay-per-minute affiliate pay-out - but not as well or as high as a typical membership site - BUT when we convert it kicks ass for the affiliate in terms of retention. These guys love these girls - as persons, more often than not - who can become cyber-mistresses in a manner of speaking.
Patience, repeat exposure and consistency - you stick with a live cam program and in the end you're rewarded.
