Technically the way you word it makes it sound like spam. Unsolicited e-mail, plan and simple.

However, if they have a contact e-mail on their site and your e-mail isn't too commercial sounding, I think you wouldn't have any problems. I get e-mails for my review site and I don't mind those that take time to request reviews and provide us with a temporary user/pass to take a look.

So from an affiliate perspective, I would write out a custom e-mail for each site. Mention who you are with and that you were wondering if you could setup a time to chat on ICQ or phone. Maybe ask if they are looking to add new sites to their database.

Drive-by spam can be annoying and impersonal. If you're looking to lock up some whales, I think they would respect an e-mail like that than someone sending a generic "Sign up with us" type mail.

This stuff is really coming from mainstream though and some of the ways we used to grab new affiliates before a site took off. It's a little harder in adult but I think the same business principles apply.
